#106. Separating sheet metal when cutting

To reduce the number of production stops, the company wanted to prevent more than one sheet being fed into the machine at the same time. It was therefore important to separate the sheets before infeed, as feeding in multiple sheets created problems in the cutting process.

Result
By using an air nozzle that generates a thin, wide air jet, it was possible to separate the sheets efficiently. The thin air jet was able to force its way between the sheets and thus separate them, which reduced double sheet infeed. The outcome was fewer production stops, which led to more efficient production.
Solution
By installing a SILVENT 9002W air nozzle, and adjusting the blowing angle, it was possible to achieve more certain separation of the sheets. The air nozzle also made it possible to reduce the sound level considerably as well as the amount of compressed air used during the operation.
